Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
Hawaii public schools use the Common Core Standards to define what students should understand and be able to do at each grade level. Hawaii Common Core Standards define the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in college and careers when they graduate. They align with college and workforce expectations, are clear and consistent, include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher-order skills, are evidence-based, and are informed by standards in top-performing countries.
It is highly recommended that you visit www.corestandards.org to understand the targets your child is expected to meet in grade 2. Common Core standards are very rigorous and may appear to be very challenging.

Forty-three states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) have adopted the Common Core State Standards. The standards create a set of common learning expectations for Mathematics and for English Language Arts/Literacy across the nation.
